Every Friday, Otero Youth Empowerment Project will recognize a young person in our community who is making a positive difference. Whether through kindness, leadership, hard work, helping others, overcoming challenges, or simply being a positive role model, we believe our youth deserve to be celebrated.
Nominate a young person who deserves to be recognized! Tell us what makes them special and how they are making a positive difference at school, at home, or in our community.
Nominees must be youth, and parent or legal guardian permission is required before any youth, story, or photograph can be featured publicly by OYEP.
Friday Shout-Out: Andrew "Big Red" Cooksey
The Otero Youth Empowerment Project is proud to recognize Andrew "Big Red" Cooksey as this week's Friday Shout-Out honoree.
Andrew was nominated for his dependability, his talent, and his generous spirit. He is known as someone who steps forward whenever help is needed, and he brings full effort and commitment to everything he takes on.
His talents reach across many areas. Andrew performs solos with his school band, competes on the basketball court, and shares his love of the game by teaching his younger sister to play. Whatever he is involved in, he gives it his best.
Above all, Andrew is recognized for his kindness. His caring nature and willingness to support others make him a positive example for his peers and his community. He reflects the values OYEP works to promote: respect, positivity, and making a difference.
Congratulations, Andrew. We are proud to celebrate you.
